"Metropolis" design doesn't cover slide background in preview (Impress)

I’m new to Impress. I assigned some slides the default design “Metropolis.” It looks fine in the creation/editing view, but when I preview the slideshow, the bottom and right side of the design background are missing (truncated) so that the white base color of the slide shows through on those two sides. I can see a shadow of part of the design superimposed over the white background, but the blue color is gone from those areas. I have not changed the page size or anything; it is in the default format – I open a new slide, assign the design, which superimposes onto it. It looks fine while working, but loses it in the show preview. Other design themes seem to display OK – covering the whole page – but not Metropolis. As a workaround I tried changing the background color of the base page to “Tango Blue Sky 2” to see if it would fill in the space, but it doesn’t work – during the preview the areas not covered by the blue Metropolis design still remain white. What’s wrong and how can I fix this? Is it a faulty design since the others work?

A fast answer would be greatly appreciated as my presentation is for a class in a few hours. Thanks so much!

OS: Win 8.1; LO version: 4.3.5.2; File format: ODP & will be converting it to .pptx when finished.

I tested Metropolis master page in LibO 4.3.6 on an XP machine and cannot confirm the error you report.

I suspect now that this is an issue with W8.1.

Please note that for selecting the LibO version you need to scroll the Version list up

As to conversion into pptx I recommend to be carefully and do frequent test in PowerPoint. There could be some layouts can go wrong.

I try to avoid PowerPoint formats. In the case of presentations I am also often asked to provide a ppt or pptx copy as a fall back solution is something happens with my PC or connection of my own PC is not possible, etc. For this I always carry a USB stick with a portable LibO version on it and my presentation. All I need is Windows PC to plug the USB stick and can run on LIbO my own presentation.

Yes, I found out too late for my presentation that the conversion to PowerPoint format was extremely problematic, and did not work. When I converted the .ODP file to .PPTX, the formatting and attributes were not retained at all! Graphics positioning was scrambled, or missing, transition timings lost, etc. I rushed to recreate all in the .pptx file directly, and saved them. That appeared to work until I reopened the file and no changes had been retained! I was out of time so was forced to cross my fingers and hope that the ODP file would play in PowerPoint. It did play, but none of the attributes, graphics, fonts, transitions, etc. displayed properly, and also, sounds and background designs were lost. It unfortunately, and embarrassingly, really messed up my presentation. I just assumed that Impress would be much more compatible with PowerPoint in the manner that Writer and Calc are with Word and Excel. Too bad!!

I am grateful for the excellent suggestion of taking a portable LibO version on my thumbdrive. (Sorry, I’m new so don’t have enough points to upvote you!) It was too late for this presentation, but I will use it in the future! Is the portable version of LibO you refer to a different (smaller) version than the full downloaded version or the same?
