I must be overlooking something. I have cells time formatted for minutes:seconds MM:SS. When I input a time, the number showing up in the cell is completely different: e.g.,
Input 8:22 number shows up as 22:00
input 16:18 shows up as 18:00
(Version: 6.2.5.)
Input 8:22 is “eight hours and twenty-two minutes zero seconds”, so when you ask it to only show minutes and seconds, you see them like that…

your format doesn’t determine the way your input will be interpreted, but determines how your values are represented (shown to you). Thus you need to input: 00:08:22 or 0:8:22
