More trouble with tables & numbers - Writer

I’m trying to type numbers into a table in writer (latest version), but it kept changing them into percentages. Then I selected the columns, went to table > number format and changed from percent. It worked but now every time I add a coma it deletes it
My table will have many different number formats - how do I disable auto everything and get it to just put what I actually type?

Set the format to Text.

Have you unchecked menu Table | Number Recognition ?

Yes - unchecking Number Recognition makes no difference.

Setting format to Text only works doing each cell one at a time. Unbelievable.

Be sure never to AutoFormat (Table > AutoFormat styles) a table, you will no longer have control over how the table is displayed. Always, when you are inserting a table make sure you click style None.

If you have applied an AutoFormat style to a table, I find the surest way to remove all traces is to click Table > Convert > Table to text (separated by tabs), then select the resultant paragraphs and click Table > Convert > Text to Table
