Hi, I have a 160 page document A4 close printed.
There are a few heading lines hard up to the LH with the rest of the document indented slightly. heading lines. I can move the heading lines right so all indented the same. Is there an easy way to move the whole document left to the original position? I need to move it all to enable odd pages to fully show when bundled book form after printing.
Regards John
OS name, LO version, save format?
How do you format your document? Are you using styles consistently all over it? Or do you “direct format”, i.e. use buttons and sliders?
With styles, it is only a matter of customising/adjusting the paragraph styles for the part of text you’re interested in. The parameters are in Indents & Spacing
tab, Indent section, Before text (in reading direction, i.e. left for English) and After text (right). Enter your preferred distance in the boxes.
Since your concern seems to be “global”, not related to a specific type of paragraph, rather a matter of binding, you can modify margins in the page style(s). This will apply to all pages simultaneously. Choose Mirrored in Page
tab, Layout Settings section Page Layout. Your left and right margins become Inner (binding side) and Outer (flipping side) which will alternate between left and right pages.
This assumes your document is saved .odt.
Decreasing the left page margin or the paragraph before text (i. e., left) indent?
Hi ajlittoz
I already have the LH margin as required and it does not need to move. Once pushing in the few headings, I need to step the whole document left to the margin but retaining other wider indents throughout the whole document, as though just sliding the whole document to the left hand margin where the most left hand text will just touch it. Hope that makes sense?
Does that mean that your description will work as required?
Thank you for your input so far.
Regards.
I guess I am a slider and button press counter. ashamed to admit
Also I am cloning the preferred format and clearing direct format in blocks as after 4 years of cobbling this document together, things changed. I wish I understood styles etc 4 years ago. LOL
LeroyG,
Yes you are correct thank you. How?
Regards
Then merge my suggestion and @LeroyG’s: modify left margin in Default Page Style which is probably the single page style in effect in you document. This will apply on the whole document, no matter your direct formatting.
Does that mean I slide it left by using select all? Not quite sure about the merging of. With my computer cred I need a word by word account
No, you’ll make things worse.
If your document uses only a single page style (which is likely your case as a beginner), Format
>Page Style
will open the dialog to configure it. Margins are defined is Page
tab.
If you have several page styles, put the cursor somewhere in the group of pages controlled by the style and repeat the procedure. But, in this case, you probably know about the style side pane. Click on the fourth icon from the left (page styles) in the pane toolbar to list page styles and modify them from here.
