I am trying to figure out how to add * in front of and at the end of the text.
Right now, I am using =concat("*", A1, "*") and I have to copy and paste special - text and then I change the font to barcode.
Does anyone know if this can be automated?
For barcode font to be scannable, an asterisk (*) need to be in front of and at the end of the text.

You can use "*"@"*" as the cell format code.

Yes, I know. I usually select the cells I want to replace. Then I press Ctrl+H to open the dialog box I showed in my screenshot. I type .* in the Find field, type *?* in the Replace field, check the Regular expressions box and click the Replace All button. Then I click Close - all the cells where the replacements occurred are selected. I choose a different font for them.
