Not Responding When Opening My Own Files. OK for Other Files

Today I am unable to open any files (calc, writer). Libre Office starts but if I click on a Recent Document, or choose a file via Open File (or via File Explorer) the program will hang with Not Responding.

Here’s what I have done to diagnose this:

  1. I can not open the files in Safe Mode. I can start in safe mode but as soon as I try to open a file it Not Responds again.
  2. I have set the Configure Option to Disable hardware acceleration. I have Reset state of bundled extensions. Doing this and either continuing or applying changes and restarting still causes the Not Responding!
  3. I have totally uninstalled LO and I have totally deleted the profile. A fresh clean install still causes the Not Responding problem.

Other points to note:

  1. I can load up the preset templates and that works. If I click on Templates and load Modern business letter it loads fine. If I then Save As and save it as an .ODT I can subsequently load it fine.
  2. If I load up .xlsx or .docx files from eleswhere they load fine!
  3. If I start with a new blank file, edit it, save it I can not then open it.

So it seems that only the files that I have created over the years or create myself from new are causing the NR.

Specs:
LO Version: 24.8.4.2 (X86_64) (it was also happening on earlier versions. I upgraded to this to test)
Windows: 10 Home 22H2

Create a new file. Type a single character in it. Save it. Attach it for analysis.

Ok, here’s a test file

(removed after testing)

Your file opens like a charm here (Fedora 41, KDE Plasma desktop, LO 24.8.4.2). Its encoding has nothing weird.

The problem likely lies in some configuration of your computer.

When you restart in Safe Mode, do you wipe out the existing profile ? (It might be wise to back it up before deleting it).

Yes I have wiped the original profile using the archive feature and then deleting.

This looks to be an issue with Cyber Ghost. I uninstalled that it it now looks fine - I can open my existing files. I don’t understand why that would happen though as it worked fine last night and only this morning I got the Not Responding. I also have another PC with a similar setup running CG and that works fine. Maybe there is a CG setting somewhere that has decided it does not like me opening LO files.
