Is there a formula, code i can use to convert large numbers into words?
E.g. 315,000,000,000,000,000,000 = Three hundred fifteen quintillion
There is the extension NumberText: Numbertext » Extensions with its focus on money amounts. Since I never use it, I don’t know in what way it treats “huge” numbers.
Anyway: Don’t do it, don’t try it. There are already by far enough, in fact much too many, useless complications concerning locales. Large numbers are specifcally problematic even in a ‘Western’ scope, because US stubbornness inists on a different usage of words like your “quintillion”. The older well established usage still prevailing in Europe and many other countries would read 1 quintillion = 10^30 (1E30) while US usage misses the “-ards”, and goes by steps (factors) of 10^3 basing in a skew way on the million which is 10^6. Thus 1 quintilion = 10^18 in the USA. Omit additional confusion. Let it be! The so-called scientific format is the appropriate way to communicate large and small numbers, and numbers in-between, too, in many cases.

Well, things get worse every day. Now I have “three hundred and fifteen quintillion” for 315E18 in a cell with locale en-UK and format code [NatNum12 cardinal]0 despite what Merriam-Webster and also wikipedia tell me: Quintillion | Definition of Quintillion by Merriam-Webster, Names of large numbers - Wikipedia.
When will we get rid again of this ambiguous nonsense. Use global standards for numbers!.

Don’t misunderstand my wording please. I may sound intolerant sometimes, though I don’t think I am.
I simply feel there shouldn’t be as many retrograde steps as we seem to do. Ambiguous ways of communication are bad. Am I wrong telling this? Am I arrogant if I repeat it?

It’s fine, everyone is free to express themselves as they wish, so if you are it’s your right, because it’s not how I see it, sure who didn’t know to express right certain irony was me. We are not the same generation but only fourteen year of difference, I think a lot less than with most people here. Hope one day we can share a glass.
