ODM export to ODT still include the prompt to reload the subfiles

After exporting an ODM to an ODT, opening the ODT still behaves like it is an ODM prompting to reload the subfiles.

Don’t want subfiles in the ODT, it is the fixed work product not subject to changes in the subfiles the ODM was seeing.

I am on release 7.4.6.2

I made this prompt disappear after deleting the sections corresponding to the sub-documents.

Right-click in one of the sections and Edit Section. You can repeatedly suppress sections with the Remove button.

First remark: this is not a solution to the problem. Please repost as a comment to avoid confusing visitors and delete your non-answer (only you as post owner can do it).

You get the list of sections corresponding to former sub-documents by displaying the side pane and clicking on the compass icon Navigator (for detailed contents of the document). You can also directly open the Navigator with F5.

@grumpygeezer
On LibreOffice 24.x I created a master document (ca. 20 sub-documents) and later on I saved it as a regular odt file. Each of the sections automatically disappeared. Perhaps you update to a later version?

I am under 24.8.5.2 which should behave same as yours.

You must File>Export and not File>Save As. Save will not change the master+subs nature internally (remember that LO does not use file extension on open but analyses a portion of the document to launch the ad-hoc component).

In the export dialog, force manually Filter: to *.odt. This will create a true .odt with sub-docs converted to sections.

sorry, thought I was replying.

now, how to I delete it?

Click on to expand the list of extra tools then on the trashbin icon.

I’m not on release 24.

I’m on release 7

lotso updating to do…

@grumpygeezer Apologies, I thought I was replying to you in my previous comment. I realised it was to @Grantler. Regards to both of you.

Found a solution.

  1. open the ODM
  2. export as ODT
  3. Open ODT (still shows the prompt)
  4. save as DOC
  5. Open DOC (no prompt anymore)
  6. Save as ODT
  7. Open ODT, prompt gone

clumsy, but it achieves the goal I want.

Grumpy

Warning! By going through DOC, you damaged your document structure. The converted back to .odt is not the same as the original .odt. In particular, all page, character, frame and list styles are wiped away and replaced by direct formatting. So, it is up to you to decide if you accept a polluted and damaged document or if you want to keep on working with versatile and powerful styles.

You must weigh seriously the pros and cons. Personally there are more cons than pros. Reconsider deleting the sections, even if they are numerous (and if they are numerous, this means you have numerous sub-documents; in this case, I’d question the relevance of the number).
