Good Afternoon,
New user, determining if LibreOffice meets my needs for document writing.
I’m on Windows 11, I imported a long MS Word document (180 pages), saved it in ODT format. I was able to add a few pages using LibreOffice and customized its settings. I must have inadvertently clicked on a setting that results in the inability to add any text after the last text that was entered previously (I’m on page 187 now). Is there a page limit or character limit in one document for LibreOffice? Is there a setting that would result in this limitation (inability to append anything to the end of the document)?
My document and folder are NOT read-only. I’m well versed in IT and have been using Microsoft Suite for over 20 years. I recently installed LibreOffice and started using it. I spent a day trying different settings to fix this problem within LibreOffice to no avail. Appreciate help in solving this problem.
Sam.
There might be a section inserted in the document in Word that is locked. Right click on it, select Edit section and in the dialogue or in Options you should find a setting to allow you to edit it.
If the document is in a table, especially a single cell table, then you might come to a limit. Right click on the text, does it say Table Properties?
Thanks, EarnestAI;
- There’s only one section in the document and no tables. I checked section Edit (and nothing is set such as write-protect). I checked Options and all the tabs and nothing’s there to indicate any locks.
- Under View menu, I checked all the options: Formatting Marks, Boundaries, Images and Charts, Whitespace, Field Shading, Field Names, Field Hidden Paragraphs. When I did that, I was able to see the missing typing characters that did not show previously. Somehow I must have enabled a “Hidden Paragraph” where my typing was going. I deleted that section, and the problem is solved.
 Thanks EarnestAI, you got me thinking, and I was able to resolve it.
