Office writer constantly crashes after opening odt file

Using 2.4.8.1
Have been using OW for years but have recently developed frustrating problems.
It started with being prompted to “recover” the document I was trying to open.

In the past clicking on a file immediately resulted in opening the document.
Now when the document opens OW crashes and returns me to my desktop. This problem only occurs on my everyday laptop and does not occur on my desktop PC

Have tried reinstalling OW but it didnt help to solve the problem.

Any ideas on what may be causing this??

What is “2.4.8.1”? The first version of LibreOffice was 3.3.0.4.

I don’t know if it helps, but 24.8.3 was released recently, with bug fixes - maybe it would be useful to test.

Often neglected: Reinstalling keeps your user-profile. During regular updates this is a good feature, but if you think reinstalling gives you a “clean” or fresh install, think again and then backup and remove/rename your profile folder. (Or try safe-mode first, if this is an option…)

In case you are really living in a loop: Stop it: When asked to recover, you can say no. The document may be lost, but it may give you the opportunity to work again. And I hope you have backups of your work. (Some even say, if there is no backup, it can’t be important…)

Thanks for your advice
starting in Safe Mode did the trick
Now, please advize how do I change my user profile so my odt files open normally when I use Office Writer in normal mode?
