Offline Help Files Install Issues - Hmmm

  1. Downloaded and Installed LibreOffice 7.4.7 Windows 64 bit to Windows 10 , 64 bit laptop.

Installer defaulted files in C:\Program Files\LibreOffice (Not in Program Files (x86) If that makes a difference.

  1. Just getting my feet on the ground I created a Writer document and started working on a Base database. LibreOffice seems to be working fine. Needing help with Base (more familiar with MS Access) I clicked on help in the menu bar and it gave me the help files not installed message.

  2. Researched online, found this site and downloaded 7.4 help file installer from LibreOffice ([Help for offline use: English (US)) After install received the same message that help files were not installed. Restarted laptop, same message (not installed). Ran installer again and it came up with the repair/uninstall option. Ran the repair, same message after repair (not installed), restarted laptop, same message.

  3. Searched Ask LibreOffice and found references to matching language versions.

My install reporting the following:

Version: 7.4.7.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 723314e595e8007d3cf785c16538505a1c878ca5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

  1. Searched in file explorer and found a LibreOffice\help folder in Program Files (x86), but no help files in Program File\LibreOffice.

  2. Ran Help file Installer, uninstalled help files and restarted laptop. Program Files (x86) LibreOffice and Help folders were both gone.

  3. Reinstalled Help File 7.4. After reinstall, When selecting help from the menu bar ,I received the following error.

Your file couldn’t be accessed
It may have been moved, edited, or deleted.
ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

There is a Help folder containing sub folders and files in Program Files\LibreOffice folder now.

  1. I’m not finding any further help topics as to how to address this.

I have downloaded the relative guides for my version, but would still like to get the offline help files operational.

Any suggestions/solutions are very much appreciated

You should download help for x64, not force-install 32-bit help into x64.

Mike,

Thank you for your reply.

Will you provide just a little bit more insight to your reply as this is new territory for me and I’m still learning.

I have not intentionally tried to install 32bit help into x64 and have no ideas on how I would accomplish that.

I downloaded the help file provided by the link. I don’t see an option to choose either 32 or 64 bit. There was such an option for LibreOffice 7.4.7 and I selected Windows 64 bit.

The help install program performs the installation and I accepted any defaults. I don’t have the knowledge to know if it was installed somewhere other than where it should have been installed.

What is the clue that indicates a forced installation? How could I recognize that occurrence for myself and how may I remedy the situation and install the correct help file?

Your help is appreciated,

DaveL

Still learning and my bad, the installer file does have x64 in the file name. The link you provided is the same program I used to install help previously. I re-downloaded it and ran it again. It opened to the repair or uninstall options. I accepted the default repair and still receive the “Your File Couldn’t Be Accessed” error message.
Thank you for your help,
DaveL

Please copy and paste the error message to the character.
But not that “Your File Couldn’t Be Accessed”: uninstall the previous help installation, and install anew, without tinkering with the path.
