Thank you Mike.
This works but where do I find my master password?
It was used to encrypt other password stored inside your profile, in registrymodifications.xcu
. Due to CVE-2022-26306, a change was introduced that improved the encryption of the passwords. It started to warn those users who had the passwords in the old encryption format, making sure that users are not hit by the vulnerability.
Some people had the password enabled, without actually using it, like yourself - possibly because they played with it at some point, and forgot about it.
In any case, clearing this password does not disable your access to anything; it only removes the passwords that LibreOffice had stored to simplify your access to remote storage services like WebDAV. Clearing it would require you to enter the respective (other) passwords that you have in those respective accounts, when you open files from those respective locations.
And there is no way to restore the master password from its encrypted form, other than using brute force. Even the discussed vulnerability didn’t make it trivially recoverable, only make the brute force attack a bit faster.
I had the same question, and this answered it. Thanks. Jim Boggs
