Only opens Excel in read only mode

I try to open an Excel document to work on but Libre Office only opens it in ‘Read only’ mode

Save the attachment first then open it.

• The file is not properly closed after saving, so it is marked as “in use” in the file system.

This typically happens when you save from Excel to a USB stick, and pull the stick while the file is still open. It can also sometimes happen if you make a copy of a file while the source file is open.

If you are on Windows, then you might need to find the file in Explorer, right click and select Properties, on the General tab there might be a Security section and a tick box to Unblock the file
