How do I open an MS Access database (*.mdb) using ODBC from LibreOffice?
I’m running Apple’s Yosemite OS and the current version of LibreOffice.

Substitute “LibreOffice” for “OpenOffice.” In the most current versions of LO, substitute “Firebird” for “HSQLDB.”
There may be some other differences here are there, but it appears this article is enough on point it should get you started.

@LKeithJordan Just for your information. The link you mention has nothing to do with opening an Access file (original question). The article instead is discussing the separation of the data from the .odb. Additionally, your mention of substituting Firebird for HSQLDB is not correct. Firebird has an entirely different structure & in the case of the link would need a different methodology.
Hi @Ratslinger. On your first assertion, I respectfully disagree.
In the link I referenced, the OP indicated he had a split database in Access. One of his questions was “possible to link tables in an OpenOffice database with ODBC or another connection protocol.” The reply discusses using ODBC and also indicates “you can still use MS Access database file with Base,” so I would argue that your assertion that link “has nothing to do with opening an Access file” is incorrect.

As for your comment concerning Firebird, perhaps I was not clear. I was not asserting that the OP substitute mere words, but that the same concepts would apply, just with a different methodology (a point on which we appear to agree).

@LKeithJordan Sorry but my comment was not specific enough. The link does mention the ability to connect to a database using ODBC (& other methods). It does not specify how(original question). The remainder of the answer is simply about HSQLDB split DB’s(data separate from .odb). This has nothing in common with the Access split mentioned in the linked question-Tables in one .mdb & rest (forms & other items) in a different .mdb-not doable in Base(at least not easily). Firebird is another story.
Actually the question above should not even reference ODBC. The real question is connecting to Access DB on a Mac. The method can be through ODBC or JDBC. In this particular case, the easiest is probably JDBC using UCANACCESS.
@Ratslinger, after reading the original post, I looked up “Yosemite” to find it was a Mac OS – only to promptly forget that little piece of information while searching for and reading potential solutions.
I confess a lack of experience with Macs. I yield to your experience and knowledge in this situation.
