I’m having trouble finding the proper documentation web page describing the paragraph style dialog, indents and spacings tab. There is a checkbox below the indents, labeled “Automatic”. (Actually, I have a Norwegian user interface, so my translation of the labels may be inexact.)
What does this checkbox do?
Built-in help tells it indents paragraph according to font size and line spacing. First line is ignored.
Honestly I have no idea of the result. Experiment. I wonder if this makes sense because these settings are usually adjusted to reflect a specific intent of the author and Writer can’t guess your intent.
Indents are suite easy and simple to set, so I’d recommend to go by manually.
