Pasting data to Calc - added apostrophe ' character

All,
can somebody please explain why pasting the data from this file (ask LO will not let me upload it here)

into a calc sheet will result with the second number from the first row (2.8) not being recognised as a number. Looking at that specific cell in Calc one can see that '2.8 is filled in instead of 2.8 (additional ’ character added).

Here below the options I’m using to paste the data

I would rather not switch to a different language but I can definitely act on this file via bash or command line too fix the possible issue.

Looking for the character in Calc and replacing it with something else is not an option.

Thanks!

Choose import language English (UK or any non-USA) if 11/9/21 refers to the 11th of September.
Choose import language English (USA) if 11/9/21 refers to the 9th of November.
Number recognition follows the langauge setting.

For dates in the first column, select Date (MDY) as needed.

Choosing to import as English UK would indeed do the job. Luckily this setting is kept for the next time you paste the data.

Double-click the second preview Column-header and choose US_English instead Standard

Thanks for the suggestion. I would rather avoid this since the setting is not retrieved the second time around…

What do you mean by that? The last selected options are pre-set when opening a file with the dialog again.

The settings for individual columns are not preserved (US-English, Text, ymd, dmy, mdy).

If you select the import locale according to the file data’s locale that rarely is necessary unless there is an odd combination of numeric data and dates in different locales or other order. The tricky part sometimes is to find a matching locale.
The sample suggests, as already mentioned earlier here, the English-GB locale if dates were yesterday (or English-US if dates are in the future).
