Period in cell being interpreted as "0"

Hey all,

I have a CSV file that I need to save as .ods so that I can upload it somewhere. Some cells just contain a “.” (period) without the quotes, and it is being interpreted as a decimal by Libreoffice. I try to change the cell type to “Text”, but to no avail - it still shows a 0. When I save out to .ods it becomes a 0, which is incorrect. How can I correct for this and just show a period, which is the actual content? Thanks.

Code Sample - Notice right at the end the ‘|.|’ . This is being changed to a 0 in Calc.

Would you mind to append a few lines from your csv demonstrating the issue to your question?
(Use the ‘Code’ tool, please.)
Are there actually cells in Calc already just containing the point (full stop)? Or are you talking of content of the csv you would expect to go to a cell? In what way do you notice that “it” is interpreted as a number. Expressly: What is the “it”? A bit later another “it” becomes a 0. What was this “it” before it became 0?

I’ve added the edit code. There are cells just containing the full stop, yes, but they should all be treated as text cells and not as a number. When I open the file in Calc, the cell with the period shows a zero, both in the cell itself as well as in the formula bar above.

Editing: Please read the bug thread linked in below and in specific my two recent comments there in reply to the comment by Eike Rathke. In consequence I set the bug to RESOLVED - NOTABUG.
It was a user profile issue, at least on my system. With a new UP I could no longer verify the bug.

You surely are on V5.2.y?
After some testing it seems to me that there is is a “regression” bug introduced with V5.2.? I tested with 5.2.2 rc. (I could not do the true lot of testing.)
Please note: I also tested with LibO Calc V5.1.4(32-bit portable) and it did not show the bug.

The bad “recognition” wasn’t even suppressed by using the " as text delimiter and setting the dialogue respectively.
A workaround would be to set all the columns probably having to accept a dot as text to ‘Text’ instead of ‘Standard’ in the csv import dialogue. Preparing the cells with format code “@” doesn’t remedy in the case.
I would suggest you file a bug report to bugs@documentfoundation.org .
You may comment on this bug report: tdf#103043.

In 5.2.2.2, when opening the .csv file, if I check “Detect special numbers”, the lone “.” is preserved.

This worked for me in 5.1.4.2, thanks!
