Powerpoint 2007 full of linked images that don't display in Impress

I recently installed LibreOffice. I have a large Powerpoint 2007
slide deck that contains a lot of linked images. None of the show
up as pictures in Impress, be it in full screen slide show view or normal
view. I see only box outlines with the file name on the upper left
corner. Also, the motion graphics GIF files that are actually in the
slide deck file do not display motion.

Does Impress normally handle linked files created by Powerpoint 2007?

If not, what is a good way to fix this for a large slide deck?

Do GIF figures (that are linked to) display their motion graphics in
slide show view?

Thanks.

Was the PPT file created on your computer? Do the file paths make any sense on your filesystem?

No, it was created on another computer. The linked files are on a USB stick. Based on what you said above, I noticed that the letter drive on the new computer is not the same. Once I changed the letter of the letter drive to match the path of the linked files, They appeared in the file when opened using Impress. Some of the cropping and aspect ratios are wrong, and that’s a lot of manual fixing. But at least it’s do-able. Thanks.

Basically:

Always create and save your files in LibreOffice and save them in ODF format (ODT, ODS, etc.).
Always keep these files as their source. If you need other formats for distribution to partners, you can open an ODF file and save and distribute another format with ″ Save as… ″.

This way, you always have working files available in your system environment.

I don’t want to save the file when the figures aren’t showing.
