printer crashes LibreOffice resolved

Following update to LibreOffice 7.0 on my 2 64 bit windows 10 PCs I receive a windows error message when trying to print a document to my HP printer and LibreOffice crashes.

The error states: LibreOffice has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I don’t know if I should reinstall LibreOffice, and if so, which version should I install? Should I drop to the previous version??

Thank you Opaque for the suggestion… (archive user profile and continue in safe mode). Unfortunately, that fails to resolve the printing problem. I do have some additional information for what it’s worth:

  • I uninstalled LibreOffice 7.0.1_Win_x64 and reverted to the more stable 6.4.6… but same printing problem occurred, so I reinstalled 7.0.1.
  • Both the MS Print to PDF and MS XPS Document Writer function properly
  • HP printer continues to fail as does the simple Print to File function
  • Also tried deleting all files found in the Disk Clean Up screen of Print Management… as well to no avail

Printer: HP LaserJet CM1415fnw (B986F2)

OS: Windows 10 Pro v 10.0.19041 Build 19041

Have completed all available windows updates, and installed HP Inc. - Firmware - 2.12.0.0

Printing problem persists with LO crash with each effort to print.

Thank you, AI…

Running HP Scan and Print Doctor has resolved the problem. A new driver was the issue after all, enabling full printing capability. I’m good to go now with LibreOffice printing, many thanks to you!

Before trying to reinstall (which would be the last resort) perform the following test, whether your user profile causes the issue:

Test user profile causing the issue:

  • Start LibreOffice
  • Restart in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Click button Continue in Safe Mode
  • Open a file using File -> Open(recent documents list will be empty in Safe mode) and test whether the problem is gone

Let us know the result of the test procedure. If printing works in Safe Mode most probably your user profile is corrupt.

say us a model of your HP printer and a build version of W10

Do you have any Windows updates waiting for download? I found the Net preview update fixed some recently introduced (by other Windows update) printing problems. Cheers, Al

Can you print from notepad? If so, can you print from other applications?

Does Scan and Print Doctor indicate any problems? See HP windows-10-support-center-printing

Did you get a prompt to connect a new printer following a windows upgrade?

Resolved by HP Printer software upgrade detected and implemented using HP Scan and Print Doctor. Windows 10 driver update completely missed this problem.
