Problem with checkbook spreadsheet

I’m using an old checkbook spreadsheet I got from “pagetutor.com
years ago. It’s fantastic but I ran into a problem today.

I have no problem reconciling my checkbook. The correct 0.00 appears as it should, where it should. However the balance is off several dollars ($20). I’ve double checked all my entries, but to no avail. They are all correct. I’m thinking it has to do with the formulas. Is there some way to visually see what the formulas are in each cell?

Maybe the problem is that some entries are not numbers but text.

Click in the menu View>Highlight values.

Text is black,
Numbers are then blue.

Thank you so much. I’ll check that out, but if that’s the case, it wouldn’t reconcile would it? Thanks again.

Well, everything all the figures are blue. While I was in “View” I clicked “show formula”, but what happened was the debit entries just disappeared. No formulas were shown. This is really showing my ignorance and I’m embarrassed, but I do appreciate your help.

Simple operations can be done with text numbers.

Thank you Leroy. I gave each entry a hard look just now and there’s no text numbers. I was hoping I’d find one or two, but no luck. Thanks again.

Make a copy of your document where you remove all text constants (black when values are highlighted) or replace it with XXX and upload the copy.

I’m not sure I follow. Are you wanting me to upload the revised document here so that you can look at it?

Yes, that’s the only way to find the error without endless questioning.

Okay. I’m away from home at the moment. I’ll be back with you ASAP. Thank you so much.

Sorry, but life got in the way and I’m gonna have to do this tomorrow. Please don’t think I’m ungrateful for your help. — Bill

Andreas.

As suggested, I’m attaching a duplicate spreadsheet for you to look at. It’s just a portion of my 2022 spreadsheet, but since the error just occurred this week, I thought just November and December entries would be sufficient.

Thanks again for all your help.

Dup Spreadsheet.ods (22.8 KB)

I can’t find any error.
Dup Spreadsheet2.ods (34.7 KB)

Okay, thanks for trying anyway. My OCD won’t let me forget about it, so I may just print out Nov and Dec and then delete all the data and enter everything from scratch.

Thanks again.

Within the given data set there is no error. Each balance equals the previous balance + debit - credit as I tested with spreadsheet formulas in my attachment.

The balance entries. See that the spreadsheet could be protected.

Yes, the balance entries, not the debit.

Of course I meant 2023? :rofl::rofl::rofl:
