Problem with F1 help

This question was recently closed as outdated.

I can’t believe that only two of us have a problem with catching the F1 key instead of the desired one.

If it’s not F2(edit), it’s Esc. I’ve done this 6 times today already. It’s not a minor issue. If the help was built in to the program, I could just hit Esc to get back. Instead, F1 takes me out of the program to a new web browser tab, so then I have to find and switch to the tab I was looking at as well as switching back to the Calc window. By the time I’ve done all this, my concentration is broken and it takes a while to get back on track.

It’s not as if the help page that opens is sensitive to the context when you press F1 - it’s just a portal for you to start another search. For experienced users, the key is more hindrance than help. It would be better to allow disabling it through customisation, and just letting users access help via the menu - Alt-H is easy enough.

This sounds more like an enhancement request to be filed at Bugzilla than a real question to other users of LibreOffice (though F1 seems to be a rather established shortcut for Help or Info)

I work a lot with Inkscape, which has F1 assigned as shortcut key for the Selection tool (choice that I like). When I use Writer again, even more so with Calc (edit cell) or Draw (select objects), it takes several F1s until one to get in rhythm.

The way things are, LibreOffice don’t allow to change this shortcut key. At least in version 6.3.6.2 (x86); OS: Windows 6.1.
