I’m trying to open a remote file from within Writer via ftp.
I can connect to the website and can save a file to the website but I can’t open the same file later.
Nothing happens.
I’m running windows 10 and I’m using LibreOffice 6.4.4.2

This is characteristic for firewalls silently denying connection requests (just dropping packages). In conjunction with passive ftp this might cause your problem. Are you using Windows Firewall and did you deny at some point in time a connection request, since you were unsure what it was about? For testing purposes temporarily disable your firewall and try once more to load your file from the FTP site. If that work, enable your firewall again - the reason is known. Next step would be to find the firewall rule and to adapt it.
Thanks for the suggestion Opaque but I didn’t think it could be that easy. Turning the firewall off made no difference. Clicking Open in the Remote Files dialog box doesn’t do anything, double clicking the file name closes the dialog box but doesn’t open the file.
I don’t know if it’s relevant but if the filter is set to Text documents the file name shows. If set to .html no name shows even though it was saved as an html file and shows as an html extension. For some reason setting the filter to all files doesn’t show any files either.
