Problem with sorting in calc

I want to sort a list of items: first column is “mfg”, second is “item”, 3rd is “SN”. I want to sort the data by MFG. LibreOffice help says to click in first cell, go to “data”, then “sort” and calc will sort the data. Doesn’t happen. If I select the column, the data in the column sorts, the other columns do not. Version 7.0.5.2

You need to select the complete range that shall get sorted. In the dialog you get with >Data>Sort you then can choose mfg as the first and only sort field … and set the Option Range contains column labels before you run the sort. The contents of the additionally selected columns will be moved together with the associated mfg content.

Sometimes Ctrl+* works to do that.
