Problems trying to copy and paste a formula from one cell to another

I have a spreadsheet originally an xlsm, but now saved as an ods file. Whenever I try to copy and paste a formula from a cell using paste special, selecting the copy formula only choice, the formula does paste and correctly updates the rows, but the value of the copied cell also pastes!

How can I just copy the formula alone and have it compute the result of the row it is in rather than giving me the value of the row the formula was copied from?

Appreciate your help!

are you trying to post directly in to a cell or in to the Formula bar?

Pasting into the cell. Should I try pasting into the Formula bar?

I just tried pasting into the formula bar. When I copied the cell and pasted into the formula bar, the value is what got pasted, so I tried copying from the formula bar then switching to the new cell and pasting the formula into the formula bar, but same result, the new cell showed the same value as the copied cell.

to limit the guesswork : screenshot and sample document, please ?

Screens included.

Before trying to paste, I right click on the new cell and select Clear contents. Then when pasting in the new cell and clicking the enter key, I get the following warning:

“You are pasting data into cells that already contain data. Do you really wat to overwrite the existing data?”

2nd screenshot is in followup reply.

Here’s more of the sheet in case it would be helpful:

Please look in the status bar, is there such an icon?

In the latest versions of Office, this is how the status of the menu item Data - Calculate - AutoCalculate is indicated

Thank you very much! I think clicking the icon, which then disappeared and the correct value appeared in the sheet, is the solution.
