Problems with "changes" created by a MS Word programme

I’m currently having a m.s. copy edited. The editor has taken my LibreOffice ‘doc’ file and returned it to me with changes, created on Microsoft Word. These are marked in the text, and there are also comments to the right hand side. I can accept or reject the changes (although it seems a very complicated procedure with a large menu dominating the screen and all but covering the text). The comments are even more of a problem; these are distorting the actual text, meaning I have to cut out word or phrase referred to, and rewrite it. Deleting the comments makes no difference.

It all seems unusually difficult - I am a big fan of LibreOffice, and find it invariably the slicker alternative. I have tried to access changes by the Edit - Changes - Accept Reject, and the edit toolbar, but both give the same result. What am I doing wrong (or does is the problem caused by my editor using MS Word?).

I understand you have 2 issues:

1. The comments are distorting the main text.

Comments in my version of Writer (4.2.0.4) do not appear among the text. Perhaps check your version.

Indeed, deleting the comment will not fix the issue as the change will be tracked - the comment will be marked as deleted.

If the version is not an issue, you can toggle on and off comments with: View - Comments.

2. Accepting/rejecting changes is cumbersome.

To make it easier to review changes, launch the Changes toolbar: View - Toolbars - Changes.

Accepting/Rejecting changes will then be a context-sensitive button away.

Thanks for answering - I really appreciate your taking the trouble.

Yes, you are quite right; two problems. I’ve tried your solution to problem one, but the word that has caused the comment is still distorted - to be totally accurate, one of the letters is of a different pitch size. If I try to delete the entire word, it treats it as a change, to be accepted or rejected. And that leads me on to the second problem…

Used that toolbar, but it really does not improve matters. On clicking accept/reject that same large menu appears, and there is no cursor on screen to show where you are, and which changes you are accepting or rejecting.

I am sure I am missing something here, but it all seems horribly vague.

Are you able to provide screen shots of the comment and the large menu? I would like to try and recreate your issue.
