PW protected file, Windows 11 22000 vs 22621

Okay… I know that the RTM version of 11 is still yet to be made public, so what I am asking is more of a future proof solution to a new problem. Being a beta tester, I understand that no one needs to answer any questions about future releases as things change all the time prior to availability.

Now… having said that, when I moved from 22000 in MS’s Release Preview ring, to the Beta… and proceeded to the now 22621 release, something is causing issues with a password protected word document I’ve had for years now.

This document, originally created in MS Word, password protected… LO never had any issues opening it, and did so relatively quick. LO still has no issues in creating new documents… however, when trying to open my pw protected doc, the primary window opens, prompts for the password, then hangs there. It can take up to two minutes or more to then open the file. Windows obviously gets tired of waiting and will let you know the program is “hung” if you click on the window or get impatient.

Not sure what the issue is. So if anyone wants to know specs, or version numbers… all I have is Windows 11 22621.1 and LO version 7.3.3.2 x64. Again, no issues when I was on the public release of 22000… so this is an inquiry as to what could be an issue, and possible a future fix so no one runs into it when 22621 is released later this year.

In the mean time, only thing I can think of is copying all the data to a new file, and go from there.

I recommend filing a bug report on Bugzilla.

and please try to create a backtrace for the report, because it’s unlikely that we would be able to repro easily (we mostly don’t use beta Windows for development).

I can try and fire up a backtrace for you if needed.

I did resolve it, by my suggested workaround, by just copying to a new document, saving, then opening… add PW and saved again. Opens just fine… and even left the original ODT file extension.

Although for the public, 22621 hasn’t been released just yet, it’s not beta anymore… but RTM. The code I’m working with is the code people will get in November, post any following fixes MS will add until then. That’s why I hesitate posting about “future” issues… I understand completely that coding is a nightmare when things work as planned, much less working with code that can change without notice.

And I agree, repro wouldn’t be possible as this file was made with Office 2000, and has gone thru several iterations since then, including being opened and saved with OpenOffice before switching to Libre. Not sure anyone else would even run into this… as I have a tendency to find the oddest of issues.

In conclusion, I’m going to use the solution of creating the new document under 7.3, and let this go. However, if I do run into any actual issues that affect users in real time, I’ll be happy to add a bug report w/back trace.

Thank you.
