Really noob question [how to show the whole thread]

I’m sure I have a case of the dumbs here… but, once a question is answered, how the heck do you get the forum UI to show the whole thread? There are conversations in progress that it simply will not show me. I can reply in email, but I rather see the whole thread.

I understand it a Q&A site, but there are still things being posted that it is hiding. There has to be a way to get to them, maybe?

Sorry if this is too noob of words, but I am seriously missing something here. :upside_down_face:

I assume you’re asking about AskLO. It is powered by the Discourse engine which does not offer the best user experience IMHO.

Under the question itself, you have two kinds of posts: answers and comments.

An Answer opens a new “section”: the answer is the first item in the section and can be followed by comments directly related to the answer.

A comment can be attached to the question (and appears in the initial section), to an answer (to be displayed at currect end of the answer “section”) or to a comment (to appear at the current end of the section in which the comment is attached).

The main difficulty for nowcomers is the fact that answers (and their attached comments) can be reordered by the engine according to its precedence rule (based on some computed relevance). Don’t rely on the order of answers to assume a progression in refinement of answers. Also, they aren’t chronologically sorted.

When a topic becomes crowded, the engine clips at some size and adds a line “Show more x comments” to be clicked to reveal the more recent posts. But due to some subtle bugs, sometimes, you need to click once more on a similar line to see everything.

Note that this “Show more …” can be displayed at several different positions, in case of several answers, depending on your visit history: the engine remembers which topics you visited at which date and will signal what you haven’t read yet.

If this does not answer your question, elaborate on “there are still things being posted that it is hiding”

What you said didn’t make a lick of difference, UNTIL I thought to try Vivaldi instead of Firefox, then presto: it worked.

It seems to be a browser thing. Which means I have a very serious case of the dumbs! That’s step one for web page confusions!

When I have some time I will fiddle with it and see if I can suss out what FF is doing, but in general FF (for answered threads) seems show the original post and then the answer and nothing in between, or after the answer, thus my head scratching.

Thanks!

Weird, because I use Firefox here (under Linux) and have absolutely no problem.

Why can't I see the post I posted yesterday? - #7 by CityguyUSA

This was on my end… and is fixed now.

i hope it’s resolved because that was just crazy and I had never ever had that happen on any other site running Discourse. There’s definately a problem using Brave on Android in that you cannnot access any of the post commands.

For me it is… there was a plugin issue with Firefox on my end. Once I sorted that out, it worked as it should.

Brave has eliminated extensions.

Does Brave (never touched it) have any thread blocking capabilities? That was the plugin that gave me issues. It never really worked, so I simply forgot it was there. Then this issue happened. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: A case of the dumbs and then some!

All that aside, if Brave has something like that baked it it could be just as sporadic and troublesome. Just a thought; I really never have touched it.

Not that I’m aware of just ad removal. And not having had it happen on other Discourse servers it would be unlikely that there would be something coded into the browser. I’m not even sure why that would happen? You went out of your way to find a way to block threads for some specific reason but to build that into a browser where you have a multitude of less technical users would be unusual unless there was some perception that they were serving advertisements in the threads.
