so is there a way to keep the filesize down during this conversion? I checked and really didn’t find anything about this. Not adverse to using different file types. It’s not really a big deal but if I can keep the filesizes down then my loading from an online source will be a bit better.

This is not a direct answer, but, the problem is solved by using 5.1 instead of 5.0 or lower. I’d still like to know if there is a solution for the earlier versions of LO as well as knowing why 5.1 writes/converts such a smaller file than LO <v5.1 .

Generally speaking, most file types and sizes are comparable. If there has been a significant reduction from v5.0 (excessively large) to v5.1 (comparable), then it may have been a regression.
