Search highlighted section in calc?

Hello.
I would like to be able to search a specified section of a spreadsheet in calc, however when I highlight the section, enter the word/number I am searching for in the search bar, then hit enter, the search ignores the part I have selected and simply shows me the first instance of that word/number (from left to right/top to bottom, like reading a book).

How can I get around this? Thanks.

Hello @appreciatethehelp,

instead of selecting “Edit : Find…” ( CTRL+F ) and typing your search term into the Search Bar,

  1. select the menu "Edit : Find & Replace..." ( CTRL+H);
  2. in the dialog that pops up, enter your search term into the "Find" field;
  3. Click on the small arrow next to "Other Options";
  4. Check the checkbox "Current selection only";
  5. in the dropdown listbox called "Search in:", select the item "Values";
  6. Then click on the "Find All" button.

Thank you kindly!

Thanks! Very useful to search a value in a specific column only (by clicking on the column name), which is more performant than searching on all columns and prevents useless processing. However that’s clearly not the best user experience on LibreOffice, having to use “Find & Replace” function if we just want to find and not replace… The feature should be added to the main find function too.

TIP: I re-assigned Ctrl+F key to “Find & Replace”.

pros: I get now a real dialog, comfortable, usable* , full blown dialog, with the “current selection” remembered. the bottom-bar is a mishap, invisible, can regain focus with Alt-Tab.

cons: dangerous.
a user can accidentally replace the selection with string.
