Separate auto-format checkbox for numbered and bulleted lists

Is it possible to enable automatic creation of numbered lists only if the typed number is 1.? Or is it at least possible to turn off automatic detection of numbered list separately from bulleted list? It should definitely be a thing, because in Czech, something like 19th century is written as 19. century, so If a sentence is started this way, list gets created. This is very annoying, but on the other hand, automatic bulleted list are super helpful, so I’d like to keep them enabled.

Is there any solution?

If not, it’d be great if autoformat option for numbered and bulleted list would be separate (for example OnlyOffice has it this way). Or if detection of numbered lists could be tweaked by user in some way.

Thank you!

Yes, I’m aware of this option. This will disable BOTH the numbered and bulleted list though and I do not want that. I want to control autoformat of numbered and bulleted lists SEPARATELY, which is what my post is about.

Above all, be aware that AutoCorrect options are mainly the poor man’s dirty tools for elaborate formatting. A much better approach is to used styles. EVERYWHERE. Which means not only for paragraphs, but also for characters, pages frames and … lists.

The latter case is a bit more difficult because a “fully integrated” solution implies the design of a paragraph style to which a list style is associated. Name “list style” is misleading: it does not describe list item formatting per se but the appareance of the sequence number or bullet and indentation. This is why it needs to be attached to a paragraph style.

Customise List n for bullet list and Numbering n for numbered list by attaching an ad hoc list style. There are a handful of built-ins at your disposal and they are customisable. You can then disable the AutoCorrect option.

Then to create a list, all you have to do is assign the adequate style to your paragraph.

With styles, you have full control on your formatting and you no longer depend on developer design choice which may prove inadequate in your culture/language.

I get that and I appreciate this answer, but it’s a little harder to explain that to non-technical people who are used to how things work in MS Word (I’m asking/making suggestion on behalf of one such person). And it’s frustrating because Writer can do these things as well and it’s just a matter of making two options separate (if there is no desire to allow for more settings in numbered list detection). I see literally no downside to making this change. Here is how these options look in OnlyOffice for example:

If you really want direct formatted lists with the AutoCorrect lists turned off, you can:

  • Press Shift+F12 to make the current paragraph a bulleted list, or
  • Press just F12 to make it a numbered list

But by using direct formatting you will be building problems into your documents that will make formatting alterations later much harder. The Writer Guide has some good information on styles, English documentation | LibreOffice Documentation - LibreOffice User Guides
