Set Anchor Size (style etc.) in Libreoffice 7.5.2.1 on Limux (RHEL 8.5)

What steps are necessary to change the end-note anchor size/style to the same character size as the text? For example: have this size (1) character as the anchor.
In various web libreoffice help texts tab-contents that do not exist are described. chatGPT is no wiser. Instead I get a superscript with a smaller size, although modified with a selected character size.

  1. This is supposed to be the end-note with the same size as the end-note index or text or … any.

In the sidebar Styles pane, in Character styles, right click Endnote Anchor and select Modify. Open tab Position and change option button to Normal from Superscript. Click OK

I cannot see a way to automatically add your surrounding parentheses

Parentheses can be added, unfortunately the other way: the anchor is left bare, parentheses are added around the number in the note at bottom or page or in the end notes. They are set in Tools>Footnotes & Endnotes, Before and After parameters.

As @EarnestAl mentions it, there is no way to automatically generate the reverse case. Parentheses must be typed manually. Don’t forget to character-style them Endnote Anchor or Footnote Anchor so that they have the same formatting as the anchor.

Sorry, I am not clear of how to get “the sidebar”, You mean I should select “Format” (abbove the text field), then select “Character” and then set “Font” to my desired size? Or is there some other process I need to follow?
With above procedure, the anchor size remains scaled by the preceding character (or blank) of that size. But this only magnifies the area and still does not allow me to lower the character (which then might push a text line below down).
In an earlier ODF file, in which I somehow did achieve a full character size for the display of anchors, I cannot output a DOC file with that same anchor display (e.g. “ref. [1]” as you see in this text here). I CAN print a correct PDF file from my ODF file. For practical use, however, this ODF file has another strange property: the endnotes start about 1/4 page down from the top of the page (all text is 2 column width, as the text).
I recall others had the same issue in the past but I can still not find any solution. Note, that these formats are important in scientific publications and will force a user to switch to Windows.
I prefer Libreoffice.
Thanks, W

Let me add: I am now on RHEL 9.2 but the “old” file that works with large anchor dispays still can at least produce correct PDF files. For now I use it as a template.

I guess you are using the Tabbed user interface so make sure the menu is visible, if it isn’t then in the View tab click the icon Menubar.

In the menu click View > Sidebar (Ctrl+F5) to show the sidebar. It might be just a narrow bar of icons at the right side, if so hover over the edge to get a double-ended arrow and drag the edge wide enough to see the contents.
Click on the Styles icon to display the Styles pane. At the top of the pane click the icon with tooltip Character styles. From the selection right-click Endnote Anchor and select Modify.

In the dialogue that opens, select tab Position and change option button to Normal from Superscript.
