Shift existing cells down on paste

Copying html spreadsheet data. (Ctl+C)
Pasting into calc [Click one cell then Ctl+V ], formatting good

If some data or formula is below paste area → paste replaces existing data

can calc automatically shift existing cells with data down ?

I can count # of rows and manually shift existing data so paste does not overwrite, but is there a way to automatically ?

Ctrl+Shift+V

when i press Crtl+Shift+V calc displays HTML, formatted text, unformatted text dialogue box not the Paste Special dialogue box with “shift down” option

You could past in an empty sheet. Copy this and then paste-special should give the right options…
One step more…

  1. The dialog may look different on a different system or with different choices. The Shift Cells optoions may be offered in a different position.
  2. What’s your version? Old versions probably don’t offer the Shift Cells options. (Always name your version, in specific if UI issues are discussed. Rather frequent changes.)
  3. The dialog opening after Ctrl+Shift+Enter depends on the source. of what was copied in advance. Only if this source was a range within a spreadsheet the respective “flavor” is supported. Something expected to fill a specific cell range must come from a cell range.
