Calc has default shortcut keys for various number formats, eg: ctr+sft+2 for scientific, ctr+sft+3 for date, etc. These all work fine.
I would like to have a shortcut key for Text format, so using the Customise option, I have assigned ctr+sft+7 for Text, but it does not work.
Just to make sure I’ve tried re-assigning ctr+sft+2 for Text, but this also does not work.
Any advice on how to do this ? Thanks.
You can assign shortcuts to cell styles. One cell style includes all formatting attributes.
It seems like you’re trying to assign a custom shortcut key for the Text format in Calc, but it’s not working as expected.
Try this:
If this doesn’t work, try resetting the shortcut key assignments to their default values and then reassign the shortcut key for Text format.

I’m not 100% sure that it doesn’t work somehow with direct formatting. But I haven’t found a way to assign direct formatting either.
With formatting via cell styles, however, you can assign the key combination to a style.
Appropos: If you enter text in a cell, it will be recognised as text anyway. If you want to enter a number as text, you can use the " ’ " apostrophe. The number will then also be interpreted as text.
If you format the cells in which you want to enter numbers as text as text beforehand, they will not be automatically reformatted into a number format.

Problem solved by formatting via cell styles, as you suggest.
I had to make a custom style called “mytext”
I first tried ctr+sft+0 as shortcut to mytext - this did not work
But with ctr+sft+7 as the shortcut it works.
So got there in the end.
