Show comments automatically

Hello everyone,

Is there an option to configure Calc to auto show comments when I the cell is selected or under mouse hover ?

I use comments a lot when starting new documents and there isn’t a keybind to popup the comment on the cell.

I am on Arch Linux, running Libreoffice full 4.3.7.

It is the default behavior, when the mouse is over the cell shows the comment,

There are a couple of options about comments:

  • Option to show the comment mark in Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/View - Show comment indicator.
  • Option to show permanently the comment. Right-click on the selected cell(s) to- Show/hide comment.

If it’s not the case, please test if resetting the user profile solves the issue.

Also this extension could be of interest.

in my case, this behaviour was caused by Tools → Options → LibreOffice → General → Help → Extended Tips. Disabling extended tips disables comment display on hover. This is a bug, no less.

The corresponding option in user/registrymodifications.xcu was this:

<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Help"><prop oor:name="Tip" oor:op="fuse"><value>false</value></prop></item>

Even with Extended Tips checked, the tips don’t always show. It would actually be useful to have them show on hover. When the do show, the box is too small to show the complete comment.
