Skip to next page in Writer?

Hi. I have a fairly basic question that I can’t figure out. I have opened a document in writer and it has 11 pages (it says Dias 1 of 11), but I can’t get to the next pages. Have tried clicking on everthing that I could think of, but nothing is working.

Any pointers?

What do you want to do?

  • Display next plage?
  • Force text to next page?

To answer the first question, we need to know your OS name and LO version, eventually the name of the desktop manager or the widget library active on your OS. Have you tampered your system settings in a way you’ve broken something in the user interface?

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Win 10 - LO 7.2 - my system is regular.
I just want to be able to change pages to view what’s on all pages and edit them. It only shows me the first page.

Then you should have all he standard GUI sliders at bottom and right of the text pane in the document window. Perhaps you could attach a screenshot to give us a better idea on what’s happening.

It looks like this.

You are not in Writer but in Draw, as indicated by the file name ….odg!

Draw only displays the current drawing sheet which is the focus of your job. You also seem to have activated some tabbed UI, so my suggestion may not be accurate.

You need first to display the list of drawing pages with View>Page Pane. This item is immediately below the Status Bar line in the menu. The page pane shows a reduced view of all pages at left of the screen. Click on one of them to display the corresponding page.

By chance, did you convert a PDF file? Be aware that it is extremely difficult to edit a PDF file because it ends up as a set of graphical shapes independent from each other (ther is no longer any notion of text flow).

It was a .pdf don’t know why it changed. Haven’t tried to edit yet, because the pages wouldn’t show. When I try to open the original .pdf and choses writer, it still opens in draw. I can’t figure out why either. But thank you for helping with the pages, now that works at least!

You can’t open a PDF in Writer because Writer handles text flows only. PDF is a page layout format positioning graphical objects at a x,y position in the page. You no longer have text. What was text is split into homogeneous typographical sequences and theses sequences of glyphs (character images) are managed just like other shapes. This is why it opens in Draw.

Editing a PDF is a nightmare because it was never intended for that. It is a “final step” format for display only. Any other operation requires a tremendous amount of work and real skill. If you want to work on such a file, convert it first to some form of text. Frequently, the easiest path is to retype it.

I normally just copy paste in the text and add the photos where they should be, haven’t had issues before doing it that way, but I must have something different with this one  But thank you for your help with the pages
