Spell Checker does not recognize words from user dictionaries

After adding a word to a user dictionary in the spell checker dialogue, the button “Add to Dictionary” disappears but the word is still not recognized, marked incorrect and the checker does not proceed.

I verified that the word is added to user dictionary and remains there after restarting LO. The user dictionary (Book) is active and has language “[All]” set, but none of its words are recognized.

I found a solution for my case: It appears that user dictionaries don’t work when LanguageTool is activated rather than the Hunspell spellchecker. LanguageTool requires me to deactivate Hunspell to work properly.

It would be great and save a lot of trouble if LO would warn the user about this issue when adding the new words to the dictionary, or when deactivating Hunspell. (Also the LanguageTool docs might mention it).
