Spreadsheet cells suddenly going dark!

Have a couple of spreadsheets now in Libre Office.
Twice now I have returned to them and found many of the cells dark. Some have text in them that is barely visible.
Laptop is MacOS. Not in ‘night mode’ - does libre office have some night mode?
Very odd because they were okay last night…

& this has happened a couple of times - if I open the sheet tomorrow, it will probably look fine - all cells light and visible.

Appreciate any ideas, this is driving me mad & I’ve only starting using LibreOffice for about a week!

#more-details

LibreOffice 25.2.0.3
MacOS 15.3.1

Does that help?

does not hurt

can you try Safe Mode and see if it’s more stable ?

more generally : Using Themes

LibreOffice has a new way of implementing the appearance but there are some bugs.

I recommend to choose a preset theme, such as Office 2003 Blue, in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance and allow LibreOffice to restart.

If you still have problems, see this post, New Writer loads in Dark Mode - #3 by vsfoote

Thanks - I cannot see any Options below Tools (& have spent 5 minutes going along the menus to find it without any luck - Format has “Theme” and “Spreadsheet Theme” (as mentioned above), but nothing like “Office 2003”.

Any more ideas where to look?!
Thanks

Sorry, I forgot you were on Mac.

  1. Click LibreOffice > Preferences > LibreOffice > Appearance (I think)
    MacLibreOfficePreferences
  2. In the Appearance pane click the icon with the tooltip Add more themes

For users on macOS, some improvement under the hood now with Apple NS libs now as for bug 165266 and bug 165382.

Should be more stable at 25.2.1 release build, and more so as the 25.2.2 release comes out in a month.

Of course testing the dev builds of master against 25.8 branch is helpful.
