Spreadsheet will no longer load in LO Calc

Hi. I have been working with a large spreadsheet that was created in Excel. I have been saving it as an xlsx file. LO calc would often freeze and crash, but I was able to work my way through the editing process, saving often, albeit with significant delays. We are running LO on Windows machine. All of a sudden this spreadsheet will not load. I get a blank page and then the program says “not responding” and freezes. It doesn’t even crash. I just get an interminable blank screen until I close the program manually.

I was able to open an earlier version of the file, but want the latest version - which can be viewed in some viewers, like google docs, but not past the first screen.

I sent this file to someone else who opened it in Excel without problem.

Is the entire file somehow locked in LibreOffice?

LO does not support everything in .xlsx (or .docx etc) files. Try this

1 Create an new, empty spreadsheet

2 Insert > Frim file. Navigate to the file and insert it

3 Now save it as a .ods

You should always work in, and save, all files as .odt, .ods etc, and never as .docx, .xlsx etc.
