Start Center Configuration with no Icons and better file info!

Good day!

I am a Newbie here and I love getting rid of MSOffice! This may be posted in the wrong forum, but I am looking for help, but not wanting to be in the developer forum as I am new here and no longer programming.

However I am frustrated by the Start Center showing Icons instead of the title of the Doc with some file details such as date-time stamp of last save.
The reason is I have a large number of Docs I use regularly, and my older retired eyes can’t decipher the Icon nor is the short title blurb enough information.
I have searched for an option button but can’t find one, nor anything in searching here or the help files.
As a retired Senior IT Manager for a rather large corporation, I have done my share of programming, and would hope to find a solution that benefits more than just me! For a MSOffice replacement the Start Center needs to be more professional and easier to use! Large Icons with minimal info is easier for some, and much worse for others!
Suggestion for Extension

  1. A small Icon denoting the file type
  2. File Title (25 characters or so)
  3. File last Date-Time saved/modified
  4. Brief file location nice but not necessary - perhaps last folder name of the file location.

This should not be a hard Extension for one you younger programmers out there! Give us oldies a break!

Thanks for the help!

First a side note: you tagged base which here means you have a problem with the database front-end component named Base . From reading, it rather looks like an issue with the splash screen and this applies to all components. The right tag is common . So please, retag as such otherwise you’ll ring the database specialists and diminish your changes of getting relevant answers.

I would suggest a workaround because I feel the Start Center has little use in your case. Your problem is to have quick access to your files according to various criteria.

The simplest way of doing this is to group your files in dedicated directories (folders) according to subject, recipient, year, … Inside each directory, you can opt for a specific view (instead of icon) with selected details (file size, last modified, …). You do that is the OS file manager. You didn’t mention your OS but, as far as I know, practically all file managers offer this possibility.

Once you have done that, you double-click on the file icon or name to launch the appropriate LO component.

In case you still have M$ Office installed, you might need to modify the file type→application association list. Once again, the procedure depends on the OS.

In the end, you won’t need at all the Start Center. Anyway, consider the Start Center is the same as the File>Recent Documents list in graphical form. This means it varies dynamically and you only see the recently accessed files. I am not aware of any means to pin some files in the Start Center to make them permanent.

Don’t be ashamed to be a newbie. We all were in the beginning.
