Still can't print

I’m on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 and just downloaded the newest LO version 7.1.4.2.

I like LibreOffice, and everything goes just fine, but the program is useless to me if I can’t print from it. I posted a question about this issue last week, and when I got no answers, I thought maybe a new upgrade of LibreOffice would fix it, but sadly it doesn’t.

When I try to print and get the print pane, it’s so large that the buttons at the bottom aren’t available; no print to PDF, no Print and no Cancel. I’ve tried zooming out, tried to scroll to the bottom of the pane, and nothing seems to work. The only way to get out of that pane is to use ESC. Spreadsheet program and Presentation work fine and I can use the buttons at the bottom, but I’m befuddled by the Text Editor. I thought if I could save it as a PDF, I could print from there, but of course with a Mac the save as PDF is actually Print to PDF, which is also not available.

Can anyone out there help me, please? Thanks!

I'm trying the solutions offered in order of simplicity! ;-) I really appreciate the suggestions.

Earnest Al, I didn’t know the difference between Print to PDF and Export to PDF; exporting as you suggested will be a work around for now until I try the other things to fix the issue. So thanks for explaining that!

Command P only opens the print dialog box, but does nothing for me after the dialog is open. I tried a few other key combinations with P, and none seemed to work. I also can’t seem to resize the box by dragging a corner, or even a side.

The suggestion to try to maximize the box didn’t seem to work; I thought the top edge of the dialog box was missing, but i can move the box around with the top gray bar of the window, but it won’t let me make it smaller by dragging any of the edges, even the top bar.

My screen is the built-in display on my laptop; “About This Mac” shows resolution as 2560 x 1600. I don’t seem to have any other issues with resolution, only with the print dialog in the Writer App; the Print panes in the other LO apps I’ve used are fine.

Thanks for the help so far, I’ll see what I can work out later this afternoon.

Above is the screenshot when trying to print…

Update 2
I restarted in safemode, and had the same issue, but wondered what would happen if I got rid of the Dock at the bottom. I moved it to the side and was able to see (finally) the print button.

having the doc at the side would take some getting used to; but I wonder WHY this is only a problem with Writer, not Calc, Impress, or Draw? If it’s screen resolution, wouldn’t I have the same issue on the other apps as well?

Any thoughts on that?

To “save as PDF” click File > Export as PDF….

Export to pdf is quite different to ‘print to pdf’, there are many more options available and bookmarks, TOC, etc. become links.

In Windows Alt+P activates the print button in the print dialog, so possibly Command+P or maybe Option+P. Cancel is Alt+C so once again, try it with option or command button and see.

Maybe you can move window around: grab any portion of the window you can and hold down OPTION+SHIFT keys and drag

What is your screen resolution? Can you resize the dialog? (it is resizable - at least on Windows, e.g. by dragging borders/corners.) Can you try to maximize it (I got a hint from someone to suggest you that - I can’t test if that’s possible on macOS, since I don’t have one - but you should try to double-click the title).

As you wrote thought maybe a new upgrade of LibreOffice would fix it, but sadly it doesn’t.

This is a common error: Your user profile is kept during upgrade, so any errors here stay. You can try to start in safe mode (without profile) if this is available on Mac or delete/rename your profile before you reinstall.

I can’t give you the location for MacOS, but google should help here.
(I recommend renaming the profile, in case you may need something from it later).

I can’t give you the location for MacOS,

see LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki (i.e. /home/<username>/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/4/)

I’m guessing that it is screen resolution, not user profile

ACK - however, the current print dialog has been reworked several times and on my macOS it is less than 600 pixels vertical (A screenshot of the dialog may be helpful).
