Styles and Formatting

I have read the Writer documentation over and over. I can’t get a Styles and Formatting Window to open. I’ve clicked on the Styles and Formatting icon. I’ve gone to Format > Styles and Formatting. When I select either option, nothing happens. I’m working on a document that originally was an AppleWorks 6 .cwk document, though I don’t know why that would make a difference. Why won’t Styles and Formatting come up?

I am using version 4.5.2 of LibreOffice on a Mac running 10.9.5. I have also tried version 5.

I’m stumped. I spent a couple of hours clicking on the Styles and Formatting icon and trying to bring the Styles and Formatting window up from the Format menu. Nothing happened with either method. I would click on the icon and nothing would happen. Then, magically, the Styles and Formatting window just appeared. So, I guess I’m happy.
