Suddenly unable to edit and save to Google drive

This applies to Writer and Calc. I have a google drive we’ve used for at least 6 years and I have not encountered this problem before the last week or so. When I use Windows (10) explorer, find a file I want to edit, double click it, it opens in Calc (or Writer), I am warned that “This document is open in read-only mode.” Nothing has changed with my access rights that I am aware of, but I cannot save back to that same location. A lock file is created and will remain there even if I close Calc after saving my work on a local drive. I’ve tried some of the workarounds I have read about elsewhere, but nothing so far has worked. I have restarted the PC, Google Drive, verified permission, etc. This problem does not seem to impact any of the other numerous programs that I use to open files from that shared drive, only LibreOffice.

I just tried to create a new spreadsheet and save it to this shared drive and I get an Error pop-up:
“Error saving the document Untitled 1: Object not accessible. The object cannot be accessed due to insufficient user rights.”

I can save to my desktop and copy the file to the desired location. I can use every other software I have tried to read, write, and modify files in the same path. I use Windows defender for anti-virus and firewall, and even with those disabled, same issue.

The solution for me was to shutdown and uninstall Google Drive, then reinstall it. Now I get to sync 400GB of data to make available offline. I will let that crank away tonight and it should be caught up by morning.

So, that lasted about a month or two, and the problem has returned. I tried disabling file locking in the Open Office Advanced settings, and that stopped Open Office from creating a lock file, but it still doesn’t allow the file to be saved in the cloud (Google Drive). It reports:
“Error saving the document [name]: General Error. General input/output error.”

Another suggested cause is low disk space. I have one very large folder in our shared drive marked as “Available offline” so it has quite a large cached presence on my local hard drive and is important for me to do work in the field when internet is inaccessible. I still have 50GB free space, so I wouldn’t think that would be too little.

I guess I will uninstall and reinstall Google Drive again for now.
