sum function returns 0, why?
I can’t believe that questions are closed just the question is answered! What if someone comes along and has an even better answer? Why can’t they post an answer?
Verify the values are really numbers not text as number.

99% of people will tell you above without explaining anything.
Read this save yourself a headache.
You see you have copied your number with formatting as is normal in accounting.
Example:
10,225.50
notice the comma , and dot . these are not numbers.
This can get confusing because you most likely already formatted your cells with numbers to add these signs automatically. … they will not be there data wise, it is just for the looks 
Thing is, in your case those commas and dots you see in your spreadsheet are not added by formatting they are real text signs added by you.
Just delete them and you are golden.
