I suspect a number of functions are now superceded but still maintained for backwards compatibility or even cross-product support.
It is also apparent that some functions are simply recommended as better solutions for the same issue
Is there a cross-reference list defining latest, preferred, obsolete compatibility only, etc,?
Which functions do you mean?
Whilst I can’t quote specifics, I have seen mention of some older functions maintained for compatibility and simply hoped to find whatever replaced them. I often search the internet for hints and find ten year-old documents and hoped to avoid anything now considered redundant.
Refcard 1 is the reference card for the first version of Visicalc (1979). The important functions are the same. Basic principles are the same. The functions that existed in Excel 5 (1993) are still the ones that matter.
The are comparison tables on the WEB (see the Spreadsheet part of it):

Precisely whare I was hoping to gain inspiration. Thanks
