Text alignment issues in Impress

Hi there,
I’ve always formatted shapes with text inside of them in the following way:
First “title” line, center-aligned.
Second, and subsequent lines, left-aligned.

I took a break for June, and now when I’ve come back and started creating again, I can no longer do this line-by-line alignment.
First line, center aligned
Second, and subsequent lines, I try to left-align, but then it snaps the top line to the left. And then it’s all, like… weirdly aligned??

Is this a bug since the newest version, or is there some silly setting that I toggled somehow?

I’ve tried reinstalling, restarting in safe mode, etc.

Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US

How do you start a new line? With Enter or Shift+Enter?
Can you share a one page .odp with a shape showing the issue? Thanks.

Hey Leroy!
I’ve tried both strategies, but I traditionally use Enter

I’ve attached the single slide showcasing some of the problems, and some correct squares using the formatting that was okay in previous months.
… I can’t seem to attach it here, so here it is on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yk-0ZPkt1yWI6_MRi3wVepkWXnBXbzIi/view?usp=drive_link

  • Select the shape
  • Choose menu Format - Text Box and Shape - Text Attributes*
  • Set the Text Anchor to top center

* Also secondary click on the text and choose Text Attributes

Hmm, I’ve tried that strategy, and it hasn’t helped any. I’ve changed the anchor, I’ve kept the anchor the same, etc.

It defaults to the top center for me.
The problem isn’t so much with the first center line, it’s aligning left after the first line.

Impress: I can confirm the above mentioned irregular behaviour of text boxes and text frames (sometimes they can be regularly formatted). Same problem in Draw.

There is Bug 95175 - Impress: can’t change text alignment in text frame of specific ODP via Paragraph (can via Text Anchor or Clear Formatting) which appears to be fixed in 25.3.2 but not in 24.27.2.
Possibly incidentally fixed by fix for Bug 165261 - FILEOPEN PPTX Text in shape is left-aligned instead of being centered

As a workaround, it might be best to do separate text boxes and group with shape.
