I recommend you read the Writer Guide for general information about styles.
You document can be divided into several “parts” bounded by “special” page breaks created by Insert
>More Breaks
>Manual Break
. This is a configurable page break (different from ordinary Ctrl+Enter) with which you can choose the page style to apply to the “part” following the break, up to the next special break.
A page style describes the geometry of the page (margins, numbering type, parity, background, …) and owns the header and footer. Consequently, you must first create the page styles you need or customise built-in ones.
From your description:
- built-in First Page can be used for your cover
First Page has the special property that it is automatically followed by Default Page Style. Thus, an ordinary page break Ctrl+Enter is sufficient to switch to default Page Style.
-
Default Page Style is the intended style for bulk contents
In both cases, customise their configuration to fit your needs.
Information about how to do it is described in the Writer Guide.
