The base component for mail merge wizard isn't working

I have Libre 6.4 on Unbuntu and I need to use mail merge to create a mailing list. I cannot get the mail merge wizard to work, and am unable to manually enter the desired fields. When I try to use the wizard, I get a message telling me that the base component for the wizard is absent. What can be done? I really need to use this feature. Fwiw, I moved this to the English category; the Site Feedback is for this Ask site feedback.

Install the Ubuntu packet for the LibreOffice database module.
Separately, and for what it’s worth, 6.4 is pretty old, you should really consider moving to 7.x. Depending on your version of Ubuntu, this might involve installing the corresponding snap package.

Thanks so much for your quick response. I would love to upgrade to 7, and am not sure how, or where to purchase. I appreciate any advice you can give. I am new to Ubuntu, and like the operating system, especially compared to windows 10. But used Microsoft word for decades. So I am also new to Libra. I would prefer to have the most current version of both.

At first: Welcome to the world of free software. No need to purchase anything, especially not before you know, if it works. Software can be donloaded with your browser, Ubunto for example at

But if you never installed Windows or Linux, better ask for help.
Especially for Ubuntu: Don’t use the newest Version, if you are not prepared to update versions often. LTS-versions have longer suport, so now I recommend 22.04 LTS.

LibreOffice is a special topic with ubuntu. As I know it is usually installed as “snap”, wich can impose some problems. As I use either Debian or Mint on my Linux-Systems I can’t help much here.
.
In Linux there is usually a kind of Software-Center wich updates all installed programs, but not necessarily to the newest version.

Do not install 3rd party packages until you are more familiar with the system. Open the Ubuntu “software center” (this is your easy peasy “app store”), search for “LibreOffice Base” and install it. Version 6.4 is perfectly OK. You won’t miss very much.
