TrueType font won't work

I use a specialist font called rallysym which is a TrueType font but it will not work with this version of LibreOffice (5.4). It used to work on an earlier version and does work with Open Office and Microsoft Office. It also works with Ashampoo Planmaker.

And by ‘not work’ I mean that when typing in ‘E’ for instance it should generate a ‘clock’ but it just comes back with a capital E. Other letters generate different symbols. i am aware of the Rally Symbols OT font, in fact I have it, but it is not nearly as good as the one that I have been using for the last 15 years or so, unfortunately it does not seem to be available online anymore.

How can I get it to work with LibreOffice?

I am on Windows 7 and have just updated to LO 6.02 but the problem still exists.

I can’t find your font online – can you provide a link/pointer/description? The more information provided, the better chance we have of finding a solution. Thanks.

What does “not work” mean specifically?
What font, specifically?
There is a Rally Symbols open type font which seems to work fine in my tests.

I can give you a copy of it but I cannot see anyway to do an attachment ?

@GerryP - I think you need more “rep” before you’re able to attach files to posts. Perhaps you could upload it to Google Drive (or equivalent) and post a link? I have some old “legacy” TTF fonts like that, and they work just fine with LibO Writer. Unless you can get someone to test on another system, it will be difficult to see where the problem lies.

@GerryP - Btw - I just noticed you’ve tagged this with calc – I assumed Writer was the app in question. I just checked in Calc, and although my old TTF file is rendered by the system font on the “formula” line, the appearance in the cell is correct - check my wee screenshot. Where are you trying to use “rallysym.ttf”?

If this is the font you ant to use, you can download an OTF version here and try that, probably something with glyph locations in the font.

Please post a link to the font file.
Perhaps I can convert the font to an updated working format.

I have uploaded the font to Dropbox, link is Dropbox - rallysym.ttf - Simplify your life it looks odd in Dropbox but you should be able to download it as a font.
I use these symbols in a workbook which generates a Road Book for use on Forest Stage Rallies.I have uploaded a sample section. link is Dropbox - Font Test SS1.ods - Simplify your life
Dropbox has problems with this font as well! but the page should open in Open Office and display the symbols.

@GerryP - Well, I tried your font/sample (thanks for making available). On OSX, rallysym.ttf does NOT work in LibO, not Writer or Calc. However, it works in MS Office, both Word and Excel. So … something about TTF and LibO not getting together. I think I might have a link on this. Will post as answer if so.

Old font - 1997.
I applied “convert to unicode font” and changed the name slightly so you can install both fonts.
Exported as an OTF file.

Appears to be working in some quick tests.
For example the “E” now appears as a clock.

The attached file is a ZIP with the font file inside.
RallySymbolsOTF.zip.odt

This forum has no issue with ODT file attachments (it does not like zips).
So just change the file extension to zip and extract.

Please check the checkmark at left if this solves your issue.

Seems to work in my test (perhaps not perfectly, but that’s hard for me to tell). Well done! How did you do the conversion? I tried four different online TTF>OTF conversion sites, but each threw an error (e.g. https://onlinefontconverter.com/ or http://www.freefontconverter.com/).

I used FontCreator.
It has a “Convert to Unicode Font” feature for just this situation - very old font.
The original font is not very complex so this may be working as expected.
GerryP will need to test and let us know.

Thanks Guys, that worked a treat. I am very grateful for your assistance, it will make my life for the remaining 79 pages much easier!!
