unfreeze line in Calc bugs

I have a multi page spreadsheet where I froze the top line as it was a header. However there’s a bug - it seems you can’t unfreeze that line by selecting it again (at least it didn’t work when I tried it). You also can’t change column widths while the top line is frozen, and I also noticed that the line numbers on the left are gone. I also found, much to my amazement, that the frozen line applied to all pages in the book, not just the one I was working on at the time.

Has anyone found a workaround for these bugs?

there’s a COUNTER INTUITIVE, NON OVIOUS workaround:
Go to cell A1, and select again freeze (row / column / or both).

magicallty, this unfreezes!

(BTW this really removes freezing. I know it, because of another related bug that disappears when unfreezing.)
If i had to guess, someone corrupts Libreoffice deliberately. the option to unfreeze existed in earlier versions, but got removed!

Oh this fresh smell of conspiracy!
tdf#159517 … oh wait! This worked the same in 3.3! And in 4.2! and in 5.0 … Nevermind, someone definitely corrupts LibreOffice, it simply has to be true!

With a frozen row the menu entry of View → Freeze Cells → Freeze Rows and Columns should have a check mark, select that menu entry to unfreeze frozen rows and/or columns.

First try to start your system anew. It may have got a punch.
If this doesn’t help, try to (cautiously!) reset your user profile. It may have got corrupted. See this wiki page.

‘Got a punch’?? What does that mean? And I did try to fool around with my user profile, but got nowhere. It seems that if you have a spreadsheet with only 1 page, things work (although I still don’t see anything about a checkmark in the freeze menu when you have frozen a line). It seems if there are multiple pages in the spreadsheet, Calc has issues.

A punch applied to a computer system might be a blackout, a system freeze or any failure requiring a forced close down, registry corruption, … Ok?
Recent versions of LibO don’t display a checkmark under View > Freeze, I think. I didn’t talk of such a thing.
The additional symptoms except “multi-page” you complained about (quoted in bold in my comment on @erAck 's answer) are simply not to understand without the assumption of severe corruption of the user profile or the LibO install.

Concerning the many sheets having frozen rows: Freezing an unfreezing always was per-sheet in LibreOffice and its predecessors.
The way you are using terminology, I may suppose you document was probably created with Excel and opened from an alien file-format. If so you should not miss to mention it. in addition: what version? It may be relevant.

I have the exact same problem as Mike, I am running Version: 6.0.7.3 (x64) and the single spreadsheet was created in LibreO, I can select and freeze the first row but I cannot reverse this action, there is No checkmark against “freeze first row” in the View menu and it also does not appear as an undo in the edit menu, the only way to clear it is select “freeze rows and columns” which again has no checkmark against it.
Anyone got any ideas?

There is no checkmark in the freeze menu; probably because I can’t select the line by tapping the line number, as they aren’t there, so trying the freeze menu again simply doesn’t work (remember this is a multi page workbook).

I tried using safe mode - worthless. I tried restore from backup and reset to factory defaults, and the problems are still there. This is a fairly annoying bug; hopefully the developers are reading this and taking notes. I’m not using any extensions

OK How can I attach a document? There doesn’t seem to be any way to do it within a comment, unless I’m not seeing an icon or two…

OK I found a partial answer. As there is no checkmark anywhere to be seen in the freeze line pulldown, for winks and grins, I went to VIEW / FREEZE CELLS / FREEZE ROWS AND COLUMNS and sure enough, the line was unfrozen. If you have a multi page workbook, you must do this for each page - in other words, it only works for the page that you are viewing at the time.
