I am constantly being asked to upgrade. When I click on the globe icon to upgrade, I’m informed that I have 7.0.3.1. It says 7.0.4 is available. When I click download, I’m informed that 6.4.7 is available (older than what I have now) as is 7.0.4. I am informed that 7.04 is “if you’re a technology enthusiast, early adopter or power user, this version is for you!” I AM NOT A TECHNOLOGY Enthusiast!!! How do I get rid of this annoying, silly update request?

On a side note, and I understand your annoyance: writing in all caps is considered as shouting, aggressive and very bad manners. Please don’t do it.

Another (important) side note:
Your current 7.0.3.1 version also was marked for “technology enthusiast, early adopter or power user” on the download page. This is not to be dismissed. It is not silly.
If you want to stay on the “fresh” 7.xxx branch, it is advisable to install updates. This branch is reasonably stable, but the updates are often important bugfixes. I advise against turning off the checking for updates.
If you decide to revert to the “still” 6.xxx branch, there will be significantly less update alerts, and it is safer to switch off checking for updates. Some features will not be available. See this page for details about the differences.
Thanks Floris and Keme, and Floris I apologize for the capital letters. When I clicked Off “Check for updates automatically” it did the job. When I clicked it back to on and hit “Every month”, it came back almost immediately, even after I clicked “Download” and then did nothing. I know I have to check for updates for the reasons you stated, so I suppose I’ll do it every 2 weeks or so.
